Call Me

I love my new pop phone. Thank you to my girl Nicole for the lovely gift. If you have an iPhone, you need one of these. I wouldn't walk down the street with it (or would I?) but love using it at home. Feelin' fancy? It comes in gold.

Do you have an iPhone? What are your favorite apps?

And because it's Friday. A little recap.
Photographed Alex for Glitter Guide yesterday. Shoot went so well!
Haven't had a day off in two weeks and it looks like I'll be working all weekend. Again.
Shooting the third part of a feature for The Everygirl on Sunday.
Cleanse is going REALLY well. I will share more soon.
Finished book 2 of The Hunger Games last night!& started book 3
While walking the pup earlier this week, it hit me. Less than 6 months until my 30th.
I want an English Roll Arm sofa or chair & am in love with this one. Thank you, Will.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Glitter Guide

I have my 2nd shoot for Glitter Guide today! In case you missed the first one, it was of my co-founder, Alaina Kaczmarski. These photos were taken a week before we had our first meeting for The Everygirl. Loved this shoot & love Alaina. Sometimes, she likes look fancy and have a drink at 11:00 am. Don't judge. You're probably drinking right now.

For behind the scenes looks at today's shoot. Follow me on instagram + twitter.

Question of the day / In the Kitchen

I have a $200 card to Williams-Sonoma and decided on the Breville Ikon Juice Fountain Elite! Juicing is one of Christine's top healthy living tips. Can't wait to get started.

If you had $200 to spend at Williams-Sonoma, what would you choose?

A few other things:
We're featuring the sisters behind Hello!Lucky (one of my favorite letterpress lines) on The Everygirl. We have a great little Hello!Lucky giveaway, too!

I'm on Stripes & Sequins today!

Cleanse is going really well!

The Everygirl goes vegetarian

Our contributing food editor Lara Matos has done it again but this time, she's come up with five vegetarian recipes under $50 for The Everygirl. The benefit of being the photographer behind these shoots is that you get to sample the food, and let me tell you...it was delicious. The black bean veggie burger is the best homemade veggie burger I have ever had, and the zucchini fritters are like woah. You can download or print the shopping list and recipes in our handbook!

Figures that I'm posting these tasty recipes the day I start my new detox/cleanse. I am actually really excited about it and will share more soon!

Around Here

Things have been busy as usual. Had a few shoots for The Everygirl, did some minor redecorating, and Alaina & I photographed each other for Jess LC . Yes. You read that correctly. More on that next week. Met a friend for dinner and drinks at Japonais, I'm halfway through book 2 of The Hunger Games, worked out, relaxed, and joined Alaina, Lauren, and Jess for dinner and drinks & enjoyed the return of Mad Men.

If you aren't following us on instagram, here's a look at what's been going on.You can follow me on instagram, too.

Photo shoot with Alaina and her mom.

I wore my Ali Ro anorak all weekend.

Went for a run on Sunday morning. Tulips are blooming! Feels like spring.

Lots of stripes.

I took the train all by myself. I never take the train. I'm practically from Chicago now.

We stopped by Jayson Home & Garden to pick up a few things for two upcoming shoots. I need this chair.

Took the covers off a few of my books to reveal black, white, & gold. Lovely.
Brilliant suggestion, Alaina! Thank you!

The gold Athena tray (which should be back in stock at the end of April) has a new home.

The coffee table has been restyled.

Bedside table, too.

Flowering branches. It feels like spring.

My new Jess LC necklace & bracelet. I'm in love.

Join us for a little Coffee Talk on The Everygirl!

Lemon Drop

My year of color continues. And now I'd like a martini + pear flavored jelly beans.
I would also like an invite to this event styled by Sarah Tucker for The Everygirl.

I have no words.

What's your favorite jelly bean flavor?

Oh, Kate Spade. I love you.

See that pretty business card holder? Recognize that bag? The logo on those business cards?

YES. The Everygirl made it to Kate Spade's Tumblr!

And because I really do love Kate Spade...

What's making you smile this week?

The Gold Athena Tray is BACK!

In case you missed the link at the bottom of yesterday's post, the Gold Athena Tray is back at Jayson Home & Garden! Everyone who comes over comments on this tray. Every. Single. Person. If you love it and think you need one, it's because you do. Jump on it. She's beautiful.

A feature on Mara of M Loves M, photographed by my talented friend Kimberly Genevieve!
Our first Coffee Talk post went up yesterday. Stop by, meet some new girls & tell us about yourself!
Love this Budget Find. I have the red one. A Christmas gift from my sis.
A new advice column for small business owners!

I Did It!

Until last week, I had not read a book since The Devil Wears Prada. Before the movie came out. Sad + true. I am happy to say that I listened to those of you who suggested The Hunger Games and finished it in just a few days. It was entertaining and held my attention which isn't always easy to do. I bought book 2 on my iPad and need suggestions for when I finish the series. I'd love to keep this up.

And, a little update. Because you care. Right?

I was finally able to catch up with my friend Jason last week. His boyfriend David was out of town so it was just the two of us talking at his place until almost 1:00 am. I am really working on finding a balance because if I don't, I may lose my mind. Planning on seeing Jason again this week.

Audrey sent a card congratulating me on The Everygirl. So sweet.

Got a pedicure with Sarah. I've been in sandals all week. In March. Heaven.

Having lots of fun with my water.

Spend St. Patty's Day morning / early afternoon at Sarah's where I met her niece, Katie. Love her! I decided not to go to a bar and went home to do nothing the rest of the day. It was wondrous. Rented The Descendants and cuddled with the pup. Mr. Clooney is so dreamy.

Ran to the grocery store in my favorite toms on Sunday morning to prep for a shoot with Alaina. I am obsessed with my new bag! After our shoot we picked up lunch and ate on my balcony while discussing The Everygirl. We have a great feature, post, & budget find on TEG today. Hope you'll stop by and tell us a little about yourself.

We needed flowers for our shoot. Any excuse to pick up a few of my favorites.

Then I took a nap and woke up to sunlight at 6:20. Two months ago it was dark by 4:30. Amazing. This was followed by editing photos, our newsletter, and posts for The Everygirl until almost 11:00 pm.
PS. The gold athena tray is back in stock at Jayson Home & Garden!

Just Keep Swimming

There's so much going on and I haven't had much time to blog. Ever have so much to do that you don't even know where to begin? That is my life right now and I expect that it will be that way for a while. The only reason this post is getting done is because I'm writing at 1:00 am and should be reading my book. Yes. A real book.

On The Everygirl...
My friend Sarah's Chicago apartment is being featured today
This feature on Amber Venz. That girl is such an inspiration.
Crystal + Taylor were photographed by Andi Hatch this week
Kimberly Genevieve photographed Candace Nelson yesterday

Things I'm loving...
Pansy + as gold as it gets. The perfect pink and a little sparkle.
I video chatted with my BFF + the kids. Got to "meet" sweet baby Harper.
Emails from girls thanking us for starting The Everygirl. These always make us smile.

Wasn't feeling well Mon + Tues. Buddy kept me company while I worked in bed.

Working on another goal for 2012. I'm reading a book + loving it.

It's been in the high 70s. The pup is enjoying every moment. Lots of walks + lounging on the balcony.

I went for a run through the city and read on my balcony. Lovely.
Let's not forget that it was in the 30s for a week in MAY last year! This is a miracle.

This happened.

And also. I miss blogging.

This + That

I enjoyed a lovely girls night with Shari on Friday. She came over and we talked for a good 5-6 hours. It was great catching up!

The rest of the weekend was devoted to The Everygirl. I spent most of Saturday laying out a feature  and we spent Sunday working on another week of meals under $50 with Lara. Everything was delicious. And guess what? Lara's second food feature went up today! Three meals, 1 cocktail, and a dessert with one key ingredient. Blood oranges.

Beautiful styling by my girl Alaina. Photography by yours truly.

The Big C will premiere on April 8. It is the best show on television, so if you haven't seen it, rent season 1 on DVD.  It's brilliant.

The weather in Chicago has been phenomenal. It will be in the 60s-70s all week. Last year it was in the 30s for a week in MAY so this feels like a miracle. I even sat on the balcony with the pup yesterday!

I am getting my hair straightened this week. I have curly/frizzy hair and it makes my life 1000x easier. I love not having to iron my hair 2x a day.

I am crazy about Jess LC's Flea collection. Each item is a limited run and they are made from a combination of new and vintage materials. If you want any of these pieces -- order now!

I am also crazy about little baby Harper. I haven't been back to CA since early December (she was born in Feb) and have no idea when/how I'll be able to go. I have photo shoots almost every weekend but need to meet this little peanut! Isn't she the cutest thing you've ever seen? She's wearing a little headband from Aunt Danielle in this photo.

Whole 30 is going well, but I was relying on fruit and nuts more than I should. Snacks have definitely been a challenge, but this feels like it's right for me. I am really bad about making meals and prefer to have a snack which is terrible! So -- this has forced me to look at what/how I eat. I highly recommend this to anyone who might be interested in giving it a try. As far as energy goes, I am very run down but this probably has something to do with working until midnight + my lack of sleep.

I am never on Facebook and don't check twitter as much as I used to. So fill me in. What's going on in your world? Have I missed anything big?

She's a girl genius

photo via bakerella.com

I'll never forget the first time I saw Bakerella's website. My best friend was planning on making Elmo cake pops for Logan's 2nd birthday and I asked to see the inspiration. So I'm looking through her website and start to feel excited and a little overwhelmed. I knew at that moment that I wanted to do something great, too. I didn't know what it was, but I felt inspired. And that's the same feeling that I get every time we feature someone on The Everygirl.

It isn't about being the next big thing or making lots of money. I'd rather make a living and love my job than have lots of money and hate going to work everyday. This is about following your passion. I have always been the girl that wants to do it all. And no -- I do not expect to master everything. I just want to have lots of different experiences. I want to see the world. I've painted (and destroyed) a dresser, moved to Chicago, and bought a kitchen torch. Not a bad start.

The real reason for this post? We're featuring Angie Dudley of Bakerella on The Everygirl today and I couldn't be more excited. She's even giving away a cake pop kit and signed cake pop book!

Now who's ready to bake some cake pops!?

I love Chicago and am very happy here. I have made some wonderful friends, gained a business partner, smile like it's Christmas morning every time it snows and I think it's a beautiful city. I appreciate wearing dresses and sandals during the summer and when people stop to say "hello" it makes my entire day. And when we're surprised with 68 degree weather in early March, I can't stop smiling. Yes. That actually happened yesterday.

For whatever reason, for the past week or two I can't shake the thought that I'll end up living someplace else. I love it here and have learned that these things cannot always be planned or predicted. I certainly never would have imagined leaving LA for Chicago and here I am. No plans to go anywhere anytime soon. I couldn't afford to move if I wanted to.

While I really don't like LA, I suppose that it is sort of on the table since my family lives there. I do like SF, so I guess that's an option as well. And while I'm happy in Chicago, I would love to experience life in New York. If given the opportunity to relocate to NYC, I would go for it.

So. I am dying to know. LA. SF. NYC. CHI. Which one would you choose? Which one wouldn't make the cut and why? And if you could move anywhere tomorrow, where would you go?

On The Everygirl:
An absolutely gorgeous furniture rehab by the Kate Riley of Centsational Girl! I think Alaina did a fabulous job laying it out! She's so good.

And coming tomorrow...Bakerella!!

*Side note. I love LA weather but people in LA are generally pretty rude. They do not hold doors open and don't really say hello. At least not like they do in the Midwest. Kindness goes a long way with me, so weather isn't really an issue. And...I hate earthquakes.

Question of the day / worst movie of all time

I know The Nanny Diaries isn't worse than Pootie Tang (thank you, Alaina) but it was pretty terrible. See the disgruntled and uncomfortable looks on those faces? We all felt that way during this movie.

What's at the top of your list?

This should be fun.

Two Dresses

I have store credit to Anthropologie and would love a new dress. I am so ready for summer! The blue is pretty and I love the little lobster crawdad guys on the green dress. Your thoughts? Blue? Green? Neither?

On The Everygirl:
We're featuring Liz of Sequins and Stripes today! And later this week: a gorgeous DIY by Centsational Girl & a feature on Bakerella! Have you ever made cake pops? I haven't but am dying to give it a try.

Keeping up

I have debated posting this, but I want to be honest and authentic with you. After working at least 6 days a week for over half of a year, The Everygirl is live and I couldn't be happier or more exhausted. The reality of running a graphic design studio, booking photo shoots, writing a blog, and running a website has hit me and I am trying to find a little balance. In an effort to reset my body and gain a little control over how I feel, I am following the Whole30 plan for the next month.

I can't tell you how many times I've been told how lucky I am that I don't have to answer to a boss, go into an office, or that it must be so nice to sleep in/ take time off whenever I want. And I am. But -- I answer to clients, I live in my office/my apartment, and if I take a day off, I don't get paid. And if I sleep it until until 9:30 , it's because I was working until 2:00 am. I work at least 6 days a week. Most nights, I am on the computer until at least midnight. I am exhausted.

I don't mean to sound like I am complaining. Launching The Everygirl has been a dream come true. I have never worked so hard in my entire life and couldn't be more thrilled with the outcome. When I am not working on The Everygirl, I am thinking about The Everygirl. It means so much to me. Earlier this week, we received an email from a blogger who after reading The Everygirl, figured out what she wanted to do with her life. This made my year. To think that I have played a role in something that is inspiring girls is just the best feeling in the world. And we've only just begun.

I thought that things would normalize after the launch, but they seem to be just as crazy -- if not crazier. I am trying to find a little balance. Something I haven't had as we prepared for the launch. Friday nights went from dinner and drinks to sitting on the couch with Buddy because I just couldn't move at the end of the day. I finally went out last Saturday and had so much fun. I needed it and must remember to take more time for myself. I don't know that I've ever been more thankful for Alaina. I've said it at least a million times, but she is the best. She has my back, challenges me in the best possible ways, makes things happen, makes me smile/laugh all the time, and is always there for me.

I know I've been posting about The Everygirl a lot the past few weeks and promise that this won't be the only topic on my blog. I'd love to get back to my usual routine but imagine that it will take some time until I find a little balance. I hope you'll hang in there as I figure things out.

And now...back to work.

Pencils + Hearts + Hammers

I whipped up this little montage of photos for The Everygirl yesterday. These were taken on Saturday at the Etsy + West Elm event [curated by Alaina]. After a fun day of shopping, lunch + drinks with Taylor, we headed to Lincoln Park for this event. I bought a few great pieces at Zara and we enjoyed veggie burgers and Moscow Mules at Bandera.

I mentioned how much I hate having my photo taken yesterday [and I really do] but couldn't resist the opportunity to a. have a little fun with the girls and b. step outside my box and do something that makes me completely uncomfortable. c. the smilebooth people made it look so fun. And it was. I couldn't say no.

I know I'm not wearing color, but I did buy a pink sweater at Gap + a neon yellow top at Zara.

I also have to mention that we are featuring Ashlina Kaposta on The Everygirl today. You need to read this feature. She is such an inspiration to me!
