Deck Those Halls

Thursday, November 01, 2012

I'm not sure where the time has gone, but it's November 1st and the holidays are officially upon us. I woke up yesterday morning to temps in the 30s and before I know it, snowflakes will fall in Chicago. I love Christmas time. The lights, the music, Christmas movies, holiday cheer, and the decorations! It should not come as a surprise to you that when it comes to Christmas decor, I tend to stick with neutrals. Except for black watch and tartan plaid. I love a little plaid.

I have decided that I'll be spending the holidays in Chicago. Since I'm on the paleo challenge, I can't have any Thanksgiving treats (no pie! sad.) anyway, and the thought of traveling home with Buddy sounds too stressful, and I will not board him. A few of my friends are making plans to get together for Thanksgiving, but I'm not sure about Christmas. I realize the situation I am putting myself in and know that this may be the year I spend Christmas on my own, While You Were Sleeping style. You know the story. Lucy spends the holidays alone (in Chicago) until she jumps on the tracks to save Peter and then meets Jack. An unlikely scenario, but I do live in Chicago, so I suppose I've got a chance.

What are you doing for the holidays?

  1. I'll be visiting Chicago (so excited!) during Thanksgiving and will be with my family here in Texas for Christmas. Can't you eat turkey on the paleo diet?

    1. Who needs proof? I named my dog after a Christmas Elf and have decor stashed in every room in my home. AND I posted about Christmas on Nov 1. #winning ;)

  3. Aww I love all the silver and gold holiday items! I'm so excited too...think it's appropriate to watch Elf now that it's November? :) Christmas in Chicago is so fun, and it actually sounds like it would be so peaceful to have a day to yourself watching movies, cuddled up inside (if you don't have a fireplace, these candles from Target sound like a crackling fire when lit, love them: http://www.target.com/p/nature-s-wick-jar-candle-bonfire-nights/-/A-14198390#prodSlot=medium_1_7&term=natures%20wick), and maybe a walk by the lake with Buddy. How's the paleo challenge going - do you feel any different? I'd love if you did a post one day on the different things you eat and if it's been tough or not :)

  4. I can't believe it's November either! As my first baby is due in two weeks we'll be staying in Birmingham, AL for Thanksgiving and Christmas. I'm hoping to get my Thanksgiving decorations up today in case the little one comes early. We're so blessed to have family come visit for both holidays.
    LOVE your decor ideas.

  6. Love these holiday picks!! Hope you do a few gift guides here and there! And I agree: boarding your pup is way too stressful, you just never know what could happen!

  8. I am in love with that arrow ornament! Great finds. At least if you have to be stuck at home, you'll be stuck in a great city like Chicago. I visited for the first time over the summer (my brother and sister in law live there) and totally fell in love!
