Paleo Pumpkin Treats

It's fall. The leaves are changing colors, I broke out the puffy vest, and I'd like a pumpkin flavored treat. One might assume this wouldn't be possible on a paleo diet (no grains, sugar, or dairy) but that isn't the case. Just yesterday I baked these delicious paleo pumpkin cookies. What makes them paleo? Almond flour, coconut oil, banana, and spices. Nothing processed. No added sugar. I've finally started a paleo board on Pinterest and look forward to trying a few more treats and recipes this fall.

And a few things to get you started – cake pop pan | loaf pan | donut pan

For those of you who don't know anything about paleo, here's a little breakdown for you:

Avoid: processed food, sugar, dairy, grains (flour, quinoa etc), legumes (beans, nuts, soy), alcohol
Enjoy: meat, seafood, nuts, seeds, healthy fat (coconut oil, avocado oil etc), veggies, fruit

Substitutions:
wheat flour–coconut or almond flour
peanut butter–almond butter or sun butter
cow's milk–almond or coconut milk
the list goes on.

What is your favorite pumpkin treat/dessert?

  1. it's hard to pick just one! I do love pumpkin bread, though. I haven't heard of a paleo diet, but I'm intrigued now! Staying away from grains, sugar and dairy is definitely hard, but worth it! thanks for sharing!

  2. i am all about eating healthy and always trying new healthy recipes. my favourite thing to do is discover delicious healthified version of my classic favourite foods. i've been hearing a lot about the Paleo diet recently but it seems so extreme and difficult! What are some of the benefits you have seen so far?? Or just the number one? Those treats look so yummy though and i love anything pumpkin right now! Thanks for sharing! xo.

    1. Hi Stephanie! The paleo diet SOUNDS extreme but it really isn't. I actually eat more (more food + more variety). Since everything going into my body is really clean (never processed) I feel better than I ever have before. I am also doing this with CrossFit so I've seen lots of change, but I have gained muscle because I lift weights :)

      Does that help at all?

  4. Those cookies look so. amazing! I tried paleo for about a month this summer with a few add ins like quinoa and some beans (I'm a vegetarian so it would have been pretty tough otherwise!). It was somewhat difficult but I definitely felt a lot better physically. Even though I'm not following it strictly anymore, I definitely think twice now before eating anything processed or with added sugars!

  8. I've been hearing so much about paleo. I'm usually skeptical when whole food groups are cut out. How are you finding it so far?

  9. Those look amazing! I did paleo all summer and it really helped get rid of my digestive issues. Lately I have been craving oatmeal so bad so I bought GF oats. I think I'll switch back to grain-free again for a week or two.

  11. Dark chocolate chip pumpkin muffins are my favorite treat to make in the fall. But, I'm pumpkin obsessed, so I won't be picky! If you're looking for a new paleo dish to try, I posted a yummy pad thai (ish) dish on my blog on Tuesday! I'm not a paleo follower, vegetarian in fact, but my husband is in the crossfit world to we try and compromise on dishes when we can :) you could add in some meat and eliminate the edamame! Can't wait to try your pumpkin cookies!
