Putting Myself First

Thursday, August 16, 2012

I've been talking about booking a trip to LA since my best friend had a baby one month before the launch of The Everygirl. Harper is now 6.5 months old and I still haven't met her. There have been late nights, weekend shoots, that trip to Boston, graphic design projects, and I moved to a new apartment. Something always seemed to get in the way of my being able to book a trip.

I finally got it together and booked my trip a few weeks ago. I was scheduled to leave today but as the trip came closer, early afternoon Thurs - end of day Monday felt like too much and I started to stress out. I will now be leaving in two weeks instead of this afternoon and will fly back on a Sunday as opposed to Monday. While I hate letting anyone down, I decided to put my needs first.

What have you done to put yourself lately?

  1. good for you- you will probably enjoy your trip more now since you won't have to worry about what you are missing! a few full days being 100% present with family and friends is far better than more time but juggling work and competing priorities....

I had my last grad school exam this week and a lot going on at work, so I opted out of all house/personal obligations and just focused... I was still exhausted after but not nearly as frazzled as I typically am!

  2. Good for you! It's always hard to see where the line should be drawn, and I'm so happy for you that you're going to get some time with your family. You definitely deserve it!

  3. I let my friend stay during "working hours" after a strenuous workout so we could eat scrambled eggs and chat. I ignored my office for a little while. I really needed some quality girl time and not just another social hour. I am socialed-out.

  4. I left work at a reasonable hour so that I could go for a bike ride with my mom. Quality work out and quality family time!

  5. Aww good! If you were stressed out the whole trip, that would be fun for no one. Now you can leave at your leisure and enjoy! I have done NOTHING for myself this week. Ugh. I've cooked and hosted a party and cleaned up after my boyfriend the last 3 days. I need me-time BAD! Maybe a mani/pedi this evening or a Bravo TV Fest!

  6. Sometimes that's what you have to do. Your peace of mind is more important. We always want to do what we want, but then we forget that we can't just drop everything without consequence. I'm sure you'll have a much better time on your trip knowing that you'll be able to do what needs to be done.

The last thing I did for myself was buy a few things I probably didn't need, and quit fighting sleep and pushed my to-do lists aside for some rest.
