Let the Decorating Begin

So, I was a little bit of a mess yesterday. So much that I had to call Anne and Alaina for a pep talk before and during the lease signing. Change scares the hell out of me. So many readers have said how strong I am for moving to Chicago. Yes -- it was a bold move, but it wasn't easy. And now I am starting over in a new area in Chicago. New neighborhood. New home. Bigger space. Painting. Money. Possibly having to find a new CrossFit place (I really like RNC). Redecorating. Lots of change.

And then I snapped out of it. Because things are great and I have found the good in all of this. Here's a list of everything good that will come from this move:

1. I will be saving ~ $400 each month and am gaining 200 square feet. These two factors are the reasons that I am making a move in the first place.
2. I'll be in an older/more charming place. Lots of pretty detail. Very me.
3. I can fit 1-2 shelving units (more storage!) and a chair in my living room!
4. I can also finally buy a (small) dining table. Hooray for dinner parties!
5. Great neighborhood.
6. I get to do a little redecorating. And to say I live for interior design would probably not be an understatement. I am getting excited.
7. w/d in the unit! Hooray!

And then there's the redecorating. I took forever to furnish my current place. Fortunately, I already have furniture and just need to get a few pieces/accessories.

So here's what's on the list:

1. New headboard (ordered 2 days ago)!
2. Dining table and chairs
3. 1-2 shelving units
4. New throw pillows for sofa
5. Chair for living room
6. Shower curtain and bathroom rug
7. New coffee table or second Durham Bunching Table

Change terrifies me, but I figured that if I can handle moving from LA to Chicago, moving 3 miles away from my current location in Chicago should be a piece of cake. So, let the decorating commence!

Let's start with a few favorite shelving units. I am losing some kitchen cabinets and plan on stacking all of my white dishware, kitchenaid mixer, mixing bowls, ceramic canisters etc. on a shelf. And yes -- everything I own is white. I already know which one I'm going with but I wanted to share my top 3 with you. And I may end up purchasing a second unit for my bedroom.

Which one would you choose?

  1. I adore the shelf coloring of the first unit, but the second is so clean and modern looking. I cannot make up my mind! I'm glad this is your decision and not mine ;)

  2. I like all of them but honestly, I like the West Elm one the best. I love your style.

  3. I like 2 and 3 best. I really want open shelving, but worry that my dog's hair will make it onto every item store there. :( My dog (100 lb Rottie) has a lot more hair than your little one. #2 is probably my favorite and cheapest - my husband would be so surprised!

  4. in addition to it being the least expensive, I really love the second one. YAY. So excited for you!

  5. How exciting! Decorating, though tiring, is just so much fun. I'm sure your new space will look fabulous in no time. Though I do really love white furniture, that second unit is gorgeous - perfect for accenting with white kitchenware!

  6. the last one-looks less 'ikea'ish-although it is super expensive for a bit of wood and whitewash.

  7. I'm so excited for you! Home Decorators has a Parsons bookshelf for $199 that looks exactly like the West Elm shelves. In case you do stick with the all white ;)

  9. If you can live like 2 weeks with only the clear part of a shower curtain - I have the waffled white from Pottery barn - its less than a year old (org 80$+) perfect condition - our new place has doors - Let me know!

  10. Love #2 (which is funny, because the cheapest option is almost never my favorite one). Excited to see the changes you make, and good luck with the move!

  13. I've always liked the look of #3, but #2 is beautiful too! You really can't go wrong!

  14. I love shelf 2, and at the risk of seeming like a total dork, I think it would look great with those nesting tables you have from Ballard Design (which are my dream coffee table option).

  15. Number 2 is great !! It's modern yet still charming and warm, on the other hand the white one gives you the freedom to play with colors... whatever one you choose, I'm sure that It's gonna look amazing, you have a great taste!

    Happy Redecorating

  16. I think your mixer and white dishware & ceramics would look so great on number two!

  17. I love #3 but I am not fond of that price tag at all.

  18. What did you decide on, by the way? Numbers one and two are my favorites. Your white dishes would blend in with number 3 too much, in my opinion.

  19. #2 I like the simplicity of it. But whichever you choose I'm sure you'll make it look great. Can't wait to see the re-decorating!

  20. I like all of them however, I think the middle one would match best with your coffee table...if that is the "look" you are still going with. I think it will offset your couch nicely (hopefully, it's going in your living room/office area).

  21. By the way, that is FABULOUS that you are saving $400 a month and gaining 200 square foot! Wow! And in Chicago that's a pretty good deal.

  22. I would go with the first one. I think it'll match your vintage antique-y feel of your apartment. Not to mention it's right in the middle in cost!

  23. I love #2 for more modern and #1 for more traditional, but they both are at great price points! Congrats for taking the plunge and moving...sounds like your new place has some great benefits and saving $400/month is pretty sweet. Can't wait to see your new place!

  25. Danielle, so excited for your move! I normally would go for the parsons one but with all your white china I would love the texture of the wood #1. Change is scary but its so fun redecorating a new place... I've moved 3 times in the past 3 years and its always fun to start over :-)

Can't wait to see your new place, I know when you get finished with it its going to be stunning... I'm sensing an everygirl feature :-)

And your copy was great for the everygirl bhldn event, you are a great writer!
