neighbors + other good things

Last month I read a post on Lesley's blog. She was having trouble finding a place in Chicago so I emailed her and set her up with my realtor/friend. Lesley found a place in my building and is moving in today! Lesley also hired me to help with her living room + I am guest posting on her blog today.

Jo of Lifestyle Bohemia won my Jenna Sue giveaway. Congrats! Don't forget that you can get 20% off your order at Jenna Sue Design Co. though July 4th! Just enter BREAKFASTATTOAST11 at checkout!

I have this print above my sofa and absolutely love it.

I went to Johanna's house {of 101 things I love} + photographed baby Olivia yesterday. She is one of the prettiest babies I have ever seen and is so tiny! And Johanna looks fantastic! Here is a little preview of what is in store. Isn't baby O gorgeous?

I have redone my pre-made template line and would like to give away one of my templates. I am also extending $5 off to my readers through Monday. This giveaway will not include customizing the color scheme, but all of my pre-mades can be customized with the color scheme of your choice.  If you would like to win, please leave a comment in this post.

You can see the rest of my pre-mades here. I should have more coming soon, too.

I am really loving the changes I made to my apt. last weekend. Joan makes me smile every day + I love having the dresser that was once in my living room in my bedroom. I am feeling determined to finish that bedroom. I just need to find a great throw pillow for the bed and mirror for the wall above the dresser.  Here are two very reasonably priced mirrors from Ballard Designs. Which one would you choose?

Bellesol Mirror {on sale for $120} + Daphne Mirror {$129}

65 people have taken the pledge to be sun savvy! Amazing. Thank you to everyone who has signed the pledge, tweeted, blogged, or shared sun savvy with your friends + family! If you have not signed the pledge please take a moment to commit to taking better care of your skin!

On Wednesday I took a break at 5:00 and walked over to the park with some friends and our dogs. The weather in Chicago has been phenomenal!

Sarah came over for the premieres of Weeds + The Big C on Monday. I love TV + friends that love TV.

Welcome to Chicago, neighbor! Can't wait to meet you!

Randolph Street Market

On Saturday I ventured over to the Randolph Street Market with Alaina, Alex + Shari. This is one of my favorite things to do in Chicago. I went twice last year and couldn't wait to go again this year. My best friend even scheduled her trip around this event last September. True story.

It was my goal to find the perfect end table for $100. I am happy to say that I found the most gorgeous bar cart for $75! It is 1000x better than anything I could have hoped for. She now resides next to my bed. I shall call her Joan. If you watch Mad Men, you will understand why when you see this...

 Isn't she beautiful?

And this one change inspired me to finally sell my dresser, move the gorgeous white dresser from my living room into my bedroom and purchase a new TV console for my living room. That all went down this weekend. All the moving + building has left me feeling exhausted but I am finally loving my bedroom. Thank you, Randolph Street Market!

A few more fun + beautiful finds.

 Obsessed with this mirror.

That's me, Alaina is behind me. You can see Alex + Shari to the right.

Would die to have the space for this piece. Love it.

We had such a nice time walking around. I even treated myself to a strawberry popsicle. It's the simple things...It was so fun looking at all the gorgeous furniture, jewelry + accessories. I could spend hours there. And that it exactly what I did.

One more thing scratched off the summer bucket list!
Cannot wait to go back again next month!

I am not engaged. But Megan is & I had the pleasure of photographing her {+ her fiance Derek} on Sunday morning. I am so happy with how these photos turned out and could not wait to share them with you! This was such a fun shoot!

 They were engaged at the John Hancock. That's the big tower in the distance.

It's so fun taking photos of two people celebrating their love and the lifelong journey they are about to take together. Loved every single moment. To see more photos from this shoot, check out my portfolio.

I want to thank those of you who have signed the pledge to be Sun Savvy. If you have not visited the new site, please take a moment to stop by.

happy SUMMER.

Today is the first official day of summer and I have already managed to scratch a few things off my summer bucket list. My friend Jill posted her list last week + inspired me to make a list of my own. Hopefully we can scratch something off the list together. It is my FIRST summer in Chicago and I could not be more excited!!! I have already had breakfast, brunch, lunch + dinner outside. Awesome.

Tonight, I will have another dinner outside with my BFF, C. Can't wait!

And most important - Avoid getting a sunburn!

And PS. I have switched sunscreens. Kind of strange that I didn't think of using a natural sunscreen earlier. I have been using Alba Botanica shaving cream for the past year and love it so I bought this {and the lip balm with SPF 25, too.} I will post more on sunscreen and sun safety soon. If you have not read this post please take a moment to read about the wake up call that forever changed how I take care of my skin.

What are you looking forward to this summer? What is at the top of your list?

the sis in chicago.

My sister flew in to Chicago on Wednesday afternoon. We had a great time. Here's a little recap of her trip to the Chi.

Michigan Avenue. Lunch at Bandera and coffee in the lounge at RL. Wine with Sarah + Melissa at my place followed by drinks at Citizen.

Breakfast at Orange where we sat outside until it rained for maybe 3 minutes. We took the food to go just in case and in typical chicago fashion, it did not rain the rest of the day. I love this city but it's just a little fickle when it comes to the weather. Also on the agenda for the day...italian ice at Mario's Italian Lemonade, architectural tour, Navy Pier, and dinner with C at Scoozi.

View from the ferris wheel at Navy Pier.

Margaritas at Big Star, drinks at Public House.

Green City Market, lunch + grocery shopping at Whole Foods, the bean, Lurie gardens, Buckingham fountain, catching up with my friend Jason, fireworks at Trump and finally...Garden State with Melissa.

Green City Market

Chicago tour with C + Jess
{Sorry I look so gross. Even mild humidity + my hair = not so cute}

Millennium Park. The flowers are in bloom everywhere. So beautiful!

Brunch with Sarah, Melissa, Brian + the dogs at the Original Pancake House followed by a walk through the Gold Coast. Jess left and Melissa and I lounged around my apt for a few hours with the dogs and then grabbed dinner at Japonais. I had never been to the patio outside. So, so pretty! I love Chicago when it isn't 20 degrees outside!

 Dining at Japonais {iPhone pic}

It was a packed few days! So fun! Back to my regular work schedule {which explains the late post today}. Hope your Monday is off to a great start!

How was your weekend?

Taking care of my skin.

Almost one week ago, I wrote a post on taking care of your skin.  My mole {which was on the middle of my back} was not cancerous but could have eventually become cancerous. You just never know. But as of today the mole is gone and I this is all behind me. I will now go in every 6 months for a body exam to make sure everything is ok. As of now, there isn't even a mole we are keeping an eye out for. Awesome! I went in for a spot on my forehead {which was nothing!} and the mole on my back that I did not know even existed had to be cut out. So if you have not had your skin checked in the last year, please make an appointment!

I wanted to share my experience with you because as an overly neurotic person who absolutely hates needles, cutting + pain. I felt that sharing how great the experience was might make it easier for anyone else who may have to have a mole removed.

I saw Dr. Alam at Northwestern. When I arrived, I was very nervous and even took an anti anxiety pill that I had gotten for this appointment. I was afraid it would be painful + that just knowing my skin was being cut would be too much for me. I am happy to say that this was not the case. Dr Alam and his staff were so wonderful. One of the doctors stood right next to me and asked me questions about my job, LA vs. Chicago, etc. during the procedure. I did not feel any pain at all. I felt one tiny pinch for a second. That was it. I never could have imagined feeling absolutely no pain but that was how it went down. I couldn't be happier.

It has been about 3 hours and I definitely feel like my back is a little tender but I wouldn't even rate this as being painful. I did take a vicodin 2 hours ago just to ensure I wouldn't feel anything. I think it's working :)

So don't let fear stop you. And if you are afraid of a grim diagnosis that is more reason to go. When caught early, cancerous moles can be removed. If you do need one removed it really isn't a big deal at all. Take it from the girl who asks for a butterfly needle when having her blood drawn. I went it by myself and did just fine. Even filled my antibiotic prescription afterward and picked up some post procedure/sis is coming to Chicago hydrangeas + tulips at Whole Foods.

The follow up is pretty simple. Stitches will be removed in 3 weeks. I cannot get them wet and cannot work out. I have to keep a bandage over the stitches and keep it hydrated with vaseline. I am so happy that this is behind me. I am healthy, was able to share my story + inspire others to see their doctors and know that I will be better about putting sun screen on every day from now on. It was a wonderful wake up call.
Neutrogena lotion + spray // Bobbi Brown {moisturizer with SPF 25}

When was the last time you saw your dermatologist?
Has my experience inspired you in any way?
 Please share your stories + favorite products. I would love to hear them!

Thank you to everyone who helped spread the word. Let's stay safe this summer!

shake it up.

My friend Melissa ordered a peanut butter shake last weekend. I took a sip can't stop thinking about a vanilla shake. Surprising? Probably not. I am not the most adventurous eater + like to keep it simple. There's nothing like a vanilla shake.

Striped straws are a must. They taste better that way.

 Strawberry is awfully sweet, too. And it's pink. Can't beat that.

Oreo + s'mores milkshakes. I'd go there.

Try Martha's toasted marshmallow + strawberry shake recipes.
I may try my hand at a vegan shake. Could be fun.

What's your favorite flavor?

what's going on.

They may not have given me a job offer but Bob + Cortney Novogratz did link to this post on twitter along with their daughter Tallulah. I'll take it.

Today is my friend Melissa's birthday. We celebrated with brunch this morning. I gave her my favorite summer scent, too.

Meeting C for dinner. Haven't seen her in a month.

My sis is coming to Chicago on Wednesday! In case you're really bad a math, that's only 2 days away.

My take care of your skin post is officially the most read post on my blog. Spread the word, people.

I am having the mole {or what's left of it} removed tomorrow. Think good thoughts for me. I know it isn't a big deal but the idea of someone cutting + stitching my skin does make me a little nervous. Will update on twitter.

Two weeks from today. Weeds + The Big C are back.
