My response?
Oh ****. I'm getting a dog.
Taken on his first night at home.
His cast said "rescue me" and had a little doodled happy face.
Taken in Jan 2009. The boy loves to cuddle.
This takes me back to my days of Essie Bordeaux.

Fortunately, he hasn't been high maintenance at all.
A 2nd broken leg, knee surgery, 2 months of cage rest & a few casts.
Easy, right?
Sept 2010. Lounging in the sun on the balcony.
I usually take his bed out there so he has something cozy to lounge on.

Buddy walks around the building acting like he owns the place. Hops on and off the elevator, plays fetch in the hallway and
My neighbors and friends adore him.
My sister calls him my greatest asset. She may be right.
My doorman says he's got swagger.
And let's not forget his Christmas cheer.
And me? I think he's the best dog in the whole world.
He is painfully adorable, loves to cuddle, lets me take his photo whenever I want and has the greatest little personality. And in spite of the fact that he was very likely abused by his last owners he is the most loving little guy.
Happy 2 years, B.

Because I have to throw this out there -- if you are looking for a pet and have any questions about adopting a rescue please email me! So many people think that you cannot have a rescue around children {not true} or that if you want a specific breed you have to go to a breeder {also not true}. My dog was on the list to be euthanized as a pup but was picked up by an amazing rescue organization and now has a loving home. There are thousands and thousands like him out there.

Happy two years!! Your dog is SO adorable. You both are very lucky to have each other (from one dog owner to another!) :)
ReplyDeleteOh, he's so sweet. I have a chihuhua/papillion mix and I swear he is the sweetest baby in the world. I couldn't walk in a see him without adopting either. I stay clear of pet stores/rescue places because I am weak! hee hee
ReplyDeleteLOVE LOVE LOVE this post! he is a cutie!
ReplyDeleteI actually for real have a tear in my eye- I'm a dog lover and the storey of your little B is so precious. Happy Birthday to your sweet little pooch- he's adorably handsome. And PS, love your new winter header! xo
ReplyDeleteWhat a great story. He is the cutest little dog. I love the pic of him in the santa hat. I have a dog as well, not that small. While they are a handful at times, nothing seems to warm your innards as when you get home and they are SO happy to see you. happy anniversay to you two!
ReplyDeleteAw, I love him he is so cute in all his little casts. I know that's sad, but really! And his clothes, too! You two are lucky to have eachother, and I so believe in rescue dogs there are SO many dogs out their that are not treated well/don't have a home and it is awful.
ReplyDeleteSuch a great story. I love your little doggie. I have been away from my precious baby for almost three weeks and I miss her, I too have a chihuahua, and this post is making me miss her even more!
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet story! He is absolutely adorable! We have a rescued dog and kitty and if I could I would get lots and lots more!!
ReplyDeleteHappy Holidays!!
So precious :-)
ReplyDeletei love you and i love him. i can't believe it's been 2 years.
ReplyDeletethe photo of him in the cage with his head cocked and his leg out is quite possibly the cutest thing ever. he is even more photogenic than i am.... :)
I love that you got him from a rescue :-) We got our Westie from a rescue, and people couldn't believe that he was a purebred. He was also set to be euthanized because the breeder thought he was a runt and no one wanted him. Thankfully, he called the rescue and told them they had an hour to pick him up... and the rest is history :-) I was so sad to leave him with my in-laws but it was better than traumatizing him with the 24 hour plane ride and month in quarantine. He was the sweetest dog and we wouldn't ever get one from a breeder knowing that so many wonderful dogs are in shelters!
ReplyDeleteI love this post! I am a huge advocate of adopting vs. buying animals!!! Thanks for sharing :)
ReplyDeleteah!! he is so cute~ happy 2 years:)
ReplyDeleteI worked in Veterinary Medicine for 13 years - I whole heartedly agree about adopting shelter pets.
ReplyDeletewww.petfinder.com is a great resource - it gives pretty detailed info about pets' health concerns/safety around children/background.
I have a 13 year old Lab that I rescued when she was 10 weeks old - she's my best friend! :)
ahhhhhhh buddy is so darn adorable! him and my howard would be the best of friends! this post reminds me so much of my feelings for howard - i seriously adore him SO much ...he's just perfect and people who've disliked/been afraid of dogs all their life ALWAYS fall in love with howard when the meet him. he wins EVERYONE over.
ReplyDeleteHappy 2 years! He is adorable. I am a min pin mama too. They are just such feisty little men.
ReplyDeleteWe have a rescued kitty...and she is the biggest lover! Animals are great assets. You're little guy is adorable!
ReplyDeletePainfully adorable is a great description - congrats on having such a cute family member!
ReplyDeleteHappy 2 years! He is so sweet & adorable. And what a great mama you are!
ReplyDeleteI rescued 2 cats and really hope to adopt a dog in the future :)
Danielle, he is absolutely the cutest thing EVER!!!!! :) Just precious!
ReplyDeleteI had no idea that this was the story behind him. You have a heart of gold. He is the sweetest dog, I can't believe someone would leave him like that.
ReplyDeleteThank goodness for people like you!
Happy 2 years, Buddy & Danielle!
ReplyDeleteWhat a special boy ... you two were certainly meant to be together! :D
This coming February will mark 2 years since I adopted my Nora.
I had never considered getting a dog. We had a cat (who we also didn't "ask" for - her coming to be with us is quite a story actually...!), and I wasn't looking for another pet of any kind, really.
My dad forwarded me an email from one of his good friends - whose wife is a hospital nurse. One of her elderly patients knew that his life was coming to an end ... and he wanted a good home for his dog before he passed.
The email didn't even have her (Nora's) picture, just a description.
I fell in love with her just by reading. And ... this even shocked me... me?! a "dog person" afterall?!
She had been living at the vet's for 3 months! That killed me. I didn't like thinking of her being in a crate for the majority of the day - for 3 whole months... I had to have her.
-
I will honestly never forget the day I was finally able to meet her & take her home. She wagged her tail as soon as she saw me .... we have been best buds ever since ;)

Yay for rescue-pups!!!!!
I love the pup!!! He is so sweet! I still remember that time we had him in the car with us and I actually (sort of) forget he was in there! Oh and when we took him to Toast and he was so good! He's just so well behaved.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe how much he's "grown up"!! He's such a sweet little guy... I can't believe it's been two years!!
ReplyDeletethis is such a sweet post! Buddy is adorable and i love all the photos!
ReplyDeletehappy 2 year xx
I feel exactly the same way about my dog, Rose. She is more a little person than a dog some days, I swear. Your boy is SUPER cute! Congrats on 2 years - here's to many more!
