black or red

Thank you all for the feedback on my dresser. To those of you that can appreciate the bold color, good for you! It is just not me & must be repainted. I also plan want to switch out the hardware.

As far as paint choices go, I think it has come down to black or red. I may be considering a gray/blue, but I am really feeling black & red. When looking for inspiration, I turned to the home that has been my favorite source of inspiration since I first saw it back in 2003.

Yes, the beach house in Something's Gotta Give. You saw that coming, didn't you? It really is so, so me. Of course I do not plan to copy this home {although I wouldn't mind that}. I do plan on a similar striped runner in the entry hall, and will have a jute rug & white sofa in my living room.

I actually did not remember that the piece in the entry hall was red. After seeing this photo, I kind of love the idea of painting it red. What do you think?

I love these wicker chairs. These chairs at Ballard Designs are the closest I've seen.

Obsessed with this chair. Unfortunately, $800 is just a touch way out of my price range.

Back to the dresser. Black or Red?

  1. If you've narrowed it to black or red (although my vote is probably for a blue/gray), I'd go with black. It would seem to be more in line with the vibe in both those pictures, and I would guess the likelihood of you being disappointed with the black in the end is lower than the red? It's hard to go wrong with black, which I know isn't very adventurous...but I figure you probably wouldn't be wanting to try again a third time? :) keep us posted, I feel very invested in this dresser now, ha!

  2. If you really want wicker chairs, try looking for outdoor/patio sites online. I've seen some that can easily just be recovered in interior fabrics that would work.

  3. Red all the way :-). I have a red dresser and a coffee table I painted red as well and I love having those bright pops of color in their respective room...helps that red is my favorite color though.

  4. I say go red... I love the "somethings gotta give" house and never noticed this pop of red... I'm in the middle of remaking a boring dresser as well. I decided to go with tiffany blue. :)

  6. Not gonna lie...you're really making me want to see Something's Gotta Give. I gotta see this house. And I think red would be awesome. I love, love, love red. I have a red chair and ottoman and a red plaid couch.

  7. Black.

    but, that's coming from a "not-a-fan-of-red" person.

  8. I think it depends on what you put in the rest of the room. Black is very clean, modern, and neat. Red gives it a pop if it is the only thing in the room!!
